Topics Covered:

  • Assistance for technology-related topics such as basic device setup, software navigation, internet usage, email, and digital library resources.
  • Help small business owners and entrepreneurs in navigating the library resources
  • Aid patrons in creating resumes, cover letters, and navigating job search websites.
  • Basic how-to: use phones, tablets, e-readers, attach a document, sign a document, send a picture.
  • Demonstrate MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) and Google Apps

How to Schedule:

  • Patrons must register on the Public Technology Training calendar through the Boynton Beach City Library website. Appointment requests are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Patrons must have a valid Boynton Beach City Library card to schedule and attend an appointment.
  • Each patron is allowed to schedule up to two (2) one-hour sessions per calendar month.
  • Patrons must provide at least 24 hours' notice if they need to cancel or reschedule their appointment.
  • Patrons who miss two (2) scheduled appointments without proper notice may have appointment privileges suspended.

Expectations:

All library rules and the library-wide Code of Conduct apply during one-on-one appointments. Patrons are expected to arrive on time and treat library staff and equipment with respect.

The trainer will recommend secure practices, such as creating strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, and recognizing phishing scams, to help patrons maintain their digital security. Patrons will be advised on how to identify secure websites and avoid sharing personal information on untrusted platforms.

While assistance may be provided for accessing or navigating accounts (e.g., email, social media, online applications), the trainer will not perform tasks such as resetting passwords, completing applications, or inputting personal details on behalf of the patron. The Public Technology Trainer will not save, store, or retain any patron's personal information, including but not limited to passwords, usernames, financial information, or private data

Conversations and assistance provided during one-on-one sessions are treated as confidential. However, patrons should be aware that library spaces are public and take steps to avoid discussing highly sensitive information in a shared environment.

The library and the Public Technology Trainer are not liable for any security incidents, data breaches, or issues resulting from actions taken during or after a training session. Patrons are responsible for following recommendations and ensuring their own security practices.

Services not provided:

  • Assistance with hardware repair or physical device maintenance.
  • Social services applications (e.g., WIC, SSI, unemployment).
  • Creating or managing personal accounts on behalf of patrons.
