Boynton Beach Arts and Cultural Center Gallery

BoyntonArts invites experienced curators and individual artists to volunteer to curate the gallery in the Boynton Beach Arts and Cultural Center (BBACC). Four curators will be chosen to organize 2 to 3-month exhibitions between in 2022 and 2023. Curatorial responsibilities will include, but is not limited to attending opening receptions, hanging work, providing a curatorial statement, finding artists, and writing wall text. This is an excellent opportunity for both practicing curators and artists to experiment with and develop their curatorial vision, as well as build their audience and portfolios. The curator may include their own art in the exhibition.

With the ongoing development of Downtown Boynton Beach as an arts and cultural destination, the BBACC Gallery has already hosted eleven shows since its opening in 2021 to a diverse and growing audience. All shows will be marketed as a partnership between BoyntonArts and the curator through the City's social media platforms, newsletters, digital billboards, and website.

About the Art Gallery

Located on the first floor of the Boynton beach Arts and Cultural Center (BBACC), the gallery has 12-foot wide hallways, with a total of 2,112 square foot space. Modern lighting that evenly illuminates artwork on the two 9.6-foot high by 88-foot long walls, which can be adjusted by the curator(s). The Art Gallery is where BoyntonArts has displayed rotating exhibitions and hosted opening receptions in neighboring classrooms and/or event space. The exhibitions feature local and national artists that contribute to thought-provoking, intriguing, and educational topics that attract visitors to the City of Boynton Beach. Additionally:

  • The space has a flexible wire-hanging exhibition system
  • The space has adjustable track lighting
  • Open to the public, City employees, tourists, and visitors of the BBACC
  • Can accommodates 2-D and 3-D wall art only
  • Limited display of artwork on pedestals

100 East Ocean Avenue, Boynton Beach, FL

As a public building, the gallery is open during business hours as follows:

  • Monday through Friday
    10 am to 8 pm
  • Saturday
    9 am to 1 pm
  • Sunday
    Closed/by appointment only

Volunteer Curator Responsibilities

  • Communicate with artists and arrange for loan agreements to be signed
  • Coordinate the reception, storage, maintenance, and return of artwork to artists with staff
  • Install and hang the exhibition
  • Develop a timeline for the exhibition
  • Attend the opening reception
  • Recommend any additional events and exhibition events if desired
  • Adhere to the rules and guidelines of the City of Boynton Beach
  • Write wall text and draft press release including gathering images for Public Relation (PR)
  • Prepare artwork wall labels

BoyntonArts Responsibilities

  • Provide the curator with $300 to cover expenses
  • Print marketing materials and exhibition wall text
  • Promote exhibition on the City website, newsletter, social media, and digital billboards
  • Coordinate exhibition needs with City staff

The Application Should Provide the Following Information

  • Resume
  • Brief description of curatorial ideas with a minimum of 4 artists per exhibition. More than one idea can be submitted
  • Link to website, social media handles, and any other digital media available

The policy of the Public Art Program is to support diverse, equitable, and inclusive arts. All exhibitions should include a cultural and ethnic diversity of artists.
