A public record is defined by Florida Statutes as all documents, papers, letters, maps, books, tapes, data processing software, or other material, regardless of the physical form, characteristics, or means of transmission, made or received pursuant to law or ordinance or in connection with the transaction of official business by any agency FS 119.011(1)

Florida law states that an agency must respond within a "limited reasonable time". This is the time it takes to review the request, search, retrieve and process records for release. Some requests may only take a few minutes while others may take weeks. The length of time varies by request.

If the request takes less than 30 minutes of staff time and no significant resources are expended, there is no labor charge, only the cost of duplicating the records. If the request takes more than 30 minutes of staff time you may be charged for labor.

An extra patrol notification is simply that; an advisory to your police department that you are going out of town and would like your home or business periodically checked. The City of Boynton Beach nor their employees can guarantee the security of your property during the extra patrol period. For further information, contact a patrol supervisor at 561-742-6100.

For all inquiries regarding property or evidence that is in police custody, please call the Property/Evidence Unit at 561-742-6172 or 561-742-6173. If there is no answer, please leave a detailed message and a phone number for us to return the call. Inquiries can also be made via email.
Property returns will only be completed with an appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9 am and 3:30 pm.
Any person seeking the return of property or evidence must complete and return either of the forms below and return it to the Boynton Beach Police Department in person or via email.

General property and prisoner property that is unclaimed will be considered abandoned and disposed of after 90 days in accordance with F.S.S. 705.103. A list of unclaimed property is available for review in the main lobby of the Boynton Beach Police Department during business hours.

There are 15 Red-Light Camera systems installed at seven intersections throughout the City of Boynton Beach.
The locations are as follows:
- Northwest 8th Street at West Boynton Beach Boulevard (southbound)
- Boynton Beach Boulevard at North Seacrest Boulevard (eastbound)
- South Federal Highway at Southeast 23rd Avenue (northbound and southbound)
- East Gateway Boulevard at North Congress Avenue (northbound, southbound, eastbound, and westbound)
- West Boynton Beach Boulevard/Northwest Second Avenue at North Congress Avenue (northbound, and eastbound)
- West Woolbright Road at South Congress Avenue (northbound, southbound, eastbound, and westbound)
- West Woolbright Road at Southwest 8th Street/Corporate Drive (eastbound)

Alarm User Fee
The City of Boynton Beach Alarm Ordinance (Chapter 2.5) requires that each alarm system (residential and non-residential) be registered with the Boynton Beach Police Department. The registration fee for an alarm system is $30. Registrations are effective for 12 months and are required to be renewed by the first day of the City's fiscal year, on or before October 1, each year. The alarm registration shall be effective for a term of 1 year, which shall begin October 1 and will be valid through the following September 30.
Alarm permit registrations are non-transferable. If there is a change of ownership or tenant(s), the new alarm user has 30 days from the date of transfer to re-register the alarm and pay the initial permit registration fee of $30. Likewise, new or replacement alarm systems must also be registered within 30 days of installation. If any information supplied in any alarm registration has changed, the registered alarm user must notify the Police Department of the change in writing within 30 days.

False Alarm Service Fees
"False alarm service" is defined as a police response to check a premise due to an unjustified activation of an alarm. False alarm service fees are amended to reflect the true cost method of transferring expenses of police response and administrative costs to the user as follows:
- 1st false alarm response within a 12-month period is free
- 2nd false alarm response within a 12-month period is free
- 3rd false alarm response within a 12-month period is free
- 4th false alarm response within a 12-month period is $75 for residential; $200 for commercial
- 5th false alarm response and all subsequent false alarm responses within a 12-month period are $100 for residential; $500 for commercial
- 6th false alarm response and all subsequent false alarm responses within a 12-month period are $150 for residential; $750 for commercial
- 7th false alarm response and all subsequent false alarm responses within a 12-month period are $200 for residential; $1,000 for commercial
Alarm users are reminded that the ordinance includes a provision allowing the Boynton Beach Police Department to initiate an action before the special master of the Boynton Beach Police Department to obtain compliance with this article and payment of service charges assessed by the Police Department. The special master shall have the authority to place liens against properties having delinquent alarm accounts, and report delinquent alarm accounts to a contracted collection agency. This might not only affect a property owner's credit standing, but also could allow the City of Boynton Beach to foreclose on mortgages of real property! Alarm users are encouraged to keep their alarm systems in good operating order, and their alarm accounts paid as up-to-date as possible.
