Dear Residents,
There have been important updates to the City of Boynton Beach code of ordinances that may affect your property. In an effort to keep residents and property owners informed, here is what changed:
Newly planted trees shall be maintained so that the mature tree canopy is a minimum of ten (10) feet from overhead utility lines. Trees directly under and growing into facility/ utility spaces shall be removed or pruned using the directional pruning method when possible. Trees shall be pruned in accordance with the standards set forth by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) A300.
This update ensures the safety and reliability of our community's power supply
Key information:
- Tree Maintenance: Residential property owners are required to maintain trees located on their property that are underneath or near overhead power lines. This may involve trimming or, in some cases, removing trees that pose a risk. It is highly recommended to hired a certified landscaper to trim trees or vegetation that are touching a power line.

Effective Date: The amended ordinance was adopted on November 6th, 2024, with subsection d. (1)(E) regarding trees near above-ground power lines taking effect on June 1st, 2025.
We encourage all residents to take proactive steps in assessing the condition of trees on their property that are near power lines. Maintaining safe distances is crucial for preventing potential hazards and ensuring community safety.
