[ARCHIVED] BBFR Lieutenant Paddle Boards from the Bahamas to Lake Worth Beach for Cystic Fibrosis

On Sunday, June 25, Boynton Beach Fire Rescue Department Lieutenant Tyler Hoffmann embarked on an 82 mile open ocean journey from Bimini, Bahamas to Lake Worth Beach, Florida in the Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis Paddle Board Race. Hoffmann, who completed the journey in 14 hours and 18 minutes, competed alongside 180 paddlers, coming in first place in the First Responders Division and second place overall in the Male Solo Competitive Division.

Hoffmann paddled for the Piper’s Angel’s Foundation and team Ford’s Fight that supports three-year old, Ford Hoyman who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Ford is the grandson of lifelong Boynton Beach natives the Aubrey and Hoyman Family.

“Team Fords Fight paddles for Cystic Fibrosis Warriors that are unable to paddle, we paddle to show our family and children that anything is possible if you work hard.” said Hoffmann, “We will continue to paddle until a cure is found.”

The Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis is a long-distance endurance paddle challenge and international championship race that takes paddlers across the Gulf Stream. Inspiration for the event comes from the incredible health benefits of the Ocean for those living with Cystic Fibrosis.
