The exhibition will be on display beginning Opening Night (Friday, October 8 - 5:30 pm) through Saturday, November 20 at the Boynton Beach Arts & Cultural Center, 125 East Ocean Ave. in Downtown Boynton. Opening night will feature a “Meet & Greet” with both artists. Admission is free. LAURA MARSH, Miami, Florida  

Laura Marsh is a textile artist with a social practice. She sews fabrics into the format of heraldic medieval banners used for the public identity of states, cities and important families.  She adds words in the spirit of sayings on needlepoint samplers or political street posters.  Banners include “Power can be taken but not given” and “Live Above the Line.” 

Since moving to Miami in 2017, Marsh's work has been presented at several significant spaces including Locust Projects, Dimensions Variable, Girl's Club, Mana Contemporary, Oolite Arts and Art Center South Florida.  She developed much of the Boynton work at a 2020 residency at Miami's Dering Estate and at the Siena Art Institute in Italy.   In 2020, she participated in the Flag Project at Rockefeller Center, NYC and the A.I.M. Biennial during Art Basel Miami.  Marsh received her MFA from Yale University School of Art and a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art.

GILLIAN KENNEDY WRIGHT, LAKE PARK, FLORIDA

 Gillian Kennedy Wright is graphic designer who focuses on works in textiles.  She stiches the colorful west African ankara print fabrics into the shape of Ghana’s adrinkra symbols that provide identity of families and cultures.  She calls the work “F is for Freedom,” referencing the symbol “Fawohodie” that is part of the phase “independence comes with its responsibilities”  

Kennedy Wright was born Jamaica and studied at the Edna Manley School for the Visual Arts in Kingston.   For many years, she worked professionally as graphic designer in Toronto, Canada.  Recently she established her home and studio in Lake Park, Florida.  In 2021, her work was presented at the gallery of the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County in Lake Worth and in the Kinetic Biennial in Boynton Beach.     


Boynton Beach Arts is the City of Boynton Beach’s art events, exhibitions and classes produced by the City’s Public Art Program, the Arts & Cultural Center and other City agencies.
