The Boynton Beach Fire Rescue Department was awarded a grant of $90,124 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The purpose of the AFG program is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire-related hazards; the funding is for critically needed safety resources.
The grant received was utilized for Gear Dryers ($36,124) and a Diesel Exhaust Capture System for Fire Station No. 3 ($54,000). The gear dryers greatly speed up the drying process of firefighter gear, enabling firefighters to return to the disaster scene as quickly as possible. The diesel exhaust capture system will significantly improve air quality in the apparatus bays, living areas, and meeting rooms.
"Boynton Beach Fire Rescue is committed to firefighter safety and the safety of our community. The AFG grant will enable us to better serve Boynton Beach residents and businesses," said Jeff Davidson, Deputy Fire Chief and Emergency Manager.
