The City’s Sign Code, within the Land Development Regulations, Chapter 4, Article IV have been reviewed by a staff team, and proposed amendments are available for viewing and comment. The most notable proposed amendments would increase allowable sign types including changeable copy and digital signs, add greater flexibility for signage within a sign program, establish an exception for off-premise signage to promote industrial parks, insert provisions and rules applicable to “human signs”, allow for sign setback reductions in certain circumstances, increase the maximum wall area standard for small commercial tenant spaces, increase provisions for canopy signs, exempt state-registered signage from sign color restrictions, and expand signage options for planned residential communities.
A copy of the draft document can be requested by e-mailing the Planning & Zoning Division at pzmailbox@bbfl.us. Comments or questions can also be sent to pzmailbox@bbfl.us. Include “Sign Code Amendments” in the subject line for quick routing to the project manager.
The Sign Regulations are tentatively scheduled to be considered by the Planning & Development Board at their October meeting, and tentatively scheduled for review by the City Commission at their regular meetings in November and December.
