ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION

Restriction on Access: The collection is available for supervised use by appointment during normal Boynton Beach City Library hours. Users are required to complete a registration form and comply with the library’s regulations governing use.

COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

Historical Note:  

Boynton Beach Community High School (Boynton Beach, Fla.)
Public PBC school, opened in the Quantum Park area of Boynton Beach for the 2001-2002 school year.

Atlantic Community High School (Delray Beach, Fla.)
Originally named “Seacrest High School,” and formed by the consolidation of Delray High School and Boynton Beach High School, both of which had their final year 1948-1949.  Built in 1949 for the White students in the area. (Black students attended Carver High School). The school changed its name in 1971 to Atlantic High School or Atlantic Community High School (used interchangeably at least since 1975; used on yearbook starting 1982) and desegregated, keeping the Seacrest High School colors of green and white and the Carver High School mascot (the eagle).  In 2005, the school moved to Atlantic Avenue.

St. Mark Catholic School (Boynton Beach, Fla.)
Private school, opened its doors to grades 1-4 in January 1959, and added September 1959 added grades 5-6, and later it added grades 7-8. It closed in May 2013 with an annual tuition of $6,000 a year and only 225 students enrolled.

Congress Community Middle School (Boynton Beach, Fla.)
Opened 1976.

Christa McAuliffe Middle School (Boynton Beach, Fla.)
Public PBC school, opened January 1987 on LaChalet Boulevard west of Lantana. Named after teacher Christa McAuliffe, one of the seven crew members killed in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster on 28 January 1986.

Saint Joseph's Episcopal School (Boynton Beach, Fla.)
Private school established 1958 for pre-K through 8th grade. In 2020, tuition was between $14,250 and $16,500.

Delray Beach High School (Delray Beach, Fla.)
In 1926, Delray Beach High School, for White students, was built next to the elementary school. The last graduating class was the year 1948-1949, and the students then attended Seacrest High School.

Boynton Beach Junior High (Boynton Beach, Fla.)
After the Boynton Beach High School closed in 1949, the building was used by the Junior High. A new building was constructed for the PBC public school in 1958. In 1976, the school building was changed to Galaxy Elementary School and the middle school students attended Congress Community Middle School.

Scope and Content Note: Incomplete collection of annual publication. Includes portraits of individual students, sports teams, clubs, faculty, chiefly with identifications. May also include school events or documentation of the year’s national events.
