Open to community members of junior high school age and older, volunteer members perform regularly in the community and has grown from about 15 members to over 100, and has included a jazz band.
The band’s first concert was at the Boynton Beach Arts Festival, March 5-6, 1977. Thereafter, the band performed at least ten concerts a year, often at the Civic Center. Buffan remained the director until April 1992, when he collapsed during a rehearsal at Congress Middle School. After 1992, the band has been frequently referred to as the James E.
