Boynton Beach to Surprise 8-Year-Old Boy with Custom-Made Magic Wheelchair Enclosure

Leandro Lencina-Medina, an 8-year-old boy with cerebral palsy will receive a custom-made magic wheelchair enclosure at the 9th Annual Joe DiMaggio Children’s Health Specialty Center Magic Wheels & Special Deals event at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 9 at the Boynton Beach Arts & Cultural Center. These enclosures are whimsical structures that surround a child’s wheelchair and are designed with each child’s dreams and favorite theme in mind. The event, which takes place from 5 - 8 p.m., will feature children’s activities, food, music and a showcase in which local organizations will sell products created for and/or sold by individuals with disabilities.

Leandro, a happy child who likes to challenge himself to do more than expected, is the center of his family’s world and loves cars, sports and music. Leandro enjoys pizza, hamburgers and of course, home-cooked meals. Following the unveiling of his magic wheelchair enclosure, Leandro will serve as the honorary starter of the 12th Annual Barrier Free 5K beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 10 at Barrier Free Park. The Barrier Free 5K is an annual race held to raise funds for the expansion of Barrier Free Park, a park specifically designed to accommodate individuals with disabilities and provide a place to play, laugh and live without limits. Participants can register for the race here

The magic wheelchair enclosure was imagined, built and supported by Chariots on Ice and Little Wolf Carpentry. This is the fifth year Joe DiMaggio Children’s Health Specialty Center sponsored this event. For more information and a detailed list of vendors, visit
