| City Launches Flood Mitigation Effort Volunteers needed for flood mitigation planning
The City of Boynton Beach is seeking public involvement and participation in the development of a flood mitigation plan, which will be part of the multi-hazard Palm Beach County Local Mitigation Strategy but also a stand-alone plan. Mitigation planning can lead to activities that lessen the impacts of disasters and reduce the loss of life and property for residents, governments and businesses. Additionally, effective flood mitigation planning can result in additional discounts for flood insurance policy holders.
The Flood Mitigation Plan will be developed using FEMA’s 10-step planning process:
- Organize to prepare the plan
- Involve the public
- Coordinate with other agencies
- Assess the hazard
- Assess the problem
- Set Goals
- Review possible activities
- Draft an action plan
- Adopt the plan
- Implement, evaluate and revise
Community input is vital to creating an effective plan and volunteers are needed to become members of the Flood Mitigation Task Force. Volunteers should expect to participate in one to two meetings per month for the next six months and provide assistance and input regarding mitigation planning.
