City Sprays Canals To Control Nuisance Plants

City Sprays Canals To Control Nuisance Plants

Beginning July 29, and continuing the third week of every month, the City will treat canals in an attempt to control nuisance plant growth. These plants include water hyacinth, water lettuce and a variety of other bothersome plants that are widely visible and vigorously reproduce to cover the canal systems. Spraying will take place in the following areas: Lake Shore Haven, Lake Eden, Chapel Hill, Lazy Lakes, Big Bass Waterway, Venetian Isles and Treasure Isles.

According to the City’s Utilities Department, which is overseeing the work being done by a professional contractor, it is not necessary to remove irrigation systems or boats from the canal system during the spray application.
