The City of Boynton Beach Utilities Dept. has authorized our contractor, Felix and Associates, to install a new 36-inch diameter water main down the center of Military Trail, from Boynton Beach Blvd. to Woolbright Road. This work is nearing completion, and you have likely noticed the traffic control devices that have been placed along the road.
The water main being installed is the first section of a 6-mile long trunk line that will move water from the City’s western wellfield to its East Water Treatment Plant. This water main is part of the City’s long-term solution for providing adequate water supply to all of it’s customers, while controlling operating costs and expenses.
The installation along Military Trail will involve directional drilling of polyethylene pipeline sections, and also involve the open-cut installation of several thousand feet of ductile iron pipe. The City has obtained permits from Palm Beach County Roadway division, the Palm Beach County Health Dept., and a number of other agencies in order to install this pipeline, and do so in a safe and effective manner.
Most of the work on Military Trail has been completed, and the new line will soon be pressure-tested by the contractor. The contractor is now performing most of his activity on Boynton Beach Blvd. west of Military Trail. Much of that work is being performed at night due to high traffic volumes during daylight hours, which prevent the contractor from closing more than one traffic lane at a time.
Shortly after the City project is completed, Palm Beach County will authorize a separate contractor to mill and resurface this entire section of Military Trail.
