The Regional Force Main project involves the installation of a new pressurized sewage  main from SE 6th Avenue and the FEC Railroad, southward and westward to the Regional Treatment Plant at the Boynton Beach/Delray Beach city limits on Congress Avenue.

The purpose of this main is to allow for increased sewage flows in the system, and also to provide an emergency backup to the main sewer trunk line that carries all of the City's sewage to the Treatment Plant.  That trunk line is approximately 30 years old.

The new sewer main is 24-inches in diameter for most of the route, and will be installed with a minimum cover of at least 3-feet of soil and/or pavement.  To do this will require significant excavation and dewatering along the entire pipeline route. The project also entails a series of sub-grade boring sections (known as "jack and bore") under I-95, and two railroad tracks.  In addition, there will be two aerial canal crossings included in the project.

The current timetable for completing the entire project is August 2011; however, restoration of local areas will be performed in each area following pipeline installation.

THE FOLLOWING UPDATE WAS POSTED ON APRIL 5TH, 2011

  • Paving began early on April 5th along SW 4th Street and Church Hill Road, beginning at Mission Hill Road, and moving northward to 100 yards north of SW 27th Terrace.  This is approximately the half-way point for the work along SW 4th street.  Rain halted this work on the afternoon of the 5th.
  • Weather permitting, the balance of SW 4th Street will be completed April 6th.
  • The paving contractor will then commence paving Mission Hill Road from Seacrest Blvd., past the bridge, and ending at Diane Drive.  Barring unforeseen circumstances, this work should follow quickly, and could be completed by the end of this week, April 8th.
  • All of the disturbed area north of Woolbright Road and west of Seacrest has been repaired, but will not be overlaid as part of this project.  Instead, that work will be done as part of the Central Seacrest water main project.
  • The section north of Woolbright and east of Seacrest is not yet ready for paving.  We do not have a firm time estimate for that work, which comprises 2 city blocks.
  • Please check this site periodically for updates.
