Description:
The Utility Department is under way with a Capital Improvement project to construct a reclaimed water distribution water main. We will be installing 18,000 linear feet of pipe ranging in size from a 24 inch main line to 6 inch distribution lines. The reclaimed water main will convey reclaimed water from the regional wastewater treatment plant to large users along our coastal areas for irrigation. This will reduce demands on the groundwater aquifer in this area.
The project should take approximately 16 months and should be complete around August 2009.
Current Status:
All of the pipeline has been installed, and the project is substantially complete. Clean-up and restoration will continue until all items are satisfactory.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the restoration of construction areas adjacent to your property, please contact one of the inspectors listed above as soon as possible, so that we may be aware of your concern, and have the contractor correct it.
At this time, reclaimed water is only being made available to large users, for irrigation. Examples of large users are: schools, cemeteries, hospitals, parks, and City complexes. State regulations govern the application of this resource, and those regulations are currently being revised to become more stringent. It is difficult at this time to determine with any certainty if the use of reclaimed water for single-family lots will be feasible in the future. Please continue to visit this site for updates.
We thank you for your patience.
