Below are guidelines and rules on the collection of residential household garbage, bulk trash, vegetation/yard waste, recycling, tire amnesty and vegetation amnesty. For pickup day information contact the Public Works Department at (561) 742-6200. All household garbage, bulk trash, vegetation/yard waste, and recycling must be placed at the curb after 6:00 PM the day before your scheduled pickup day or by 6:00 AM on the scheduled pickup day.
RESIDENTIAL HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE is picked up twice a week on either Monday & Thursday, Tuesday & Friday, or Wednesday & Saturday. A special note to those residents who have a City issued garbage cart; please ensure your cart is at least 3 feet away from all obstructions with the handle of the cart facing away from the street and with all garbage inside the cart with the lid securely closed. Residents without carts must ensure that their garbage is containerized and that it does not exceed 35 pounds.
BULK TRASH is picked up weekly curbside and includes such household items as appliances, furniture, etc. Please note that bulk trash does not include construction debris or hazardous waste. While the City can accomodate special pickups for construction debris for an extra fee, the City cannot handle hazardous waste, such as, motor oil, antifreeze, oil-based paints, etc. For hazardous waste you must contact the Solid Waste Authority at (561) 687-1100.
YARD WASTE is picked up weekly curbside and must be containrized. Items such as tree limbs that cannot be containerized must be cut down into 4-foot lengths and cannot exceed 4 inches in diameter. Yard waste piles that exceed 2 cubic yards or piles mixed with bulk trash will be assessed an extra fee.
CURBSIDE RECYCLING is picked up weekly and must be separated into the yellow bin (newspaper & inserts, corrugated cardboard boxes, magazines, catalogs, and telephone books) and the blue bin (aluminum/no steel, glass bottles, glass jars, drink boxes, milk/juice cartons, and all plastic containers). Please note that larger corrugated cardboard boxes can be broken down into flattened 2' x 2' sections and placed in or next the yellow bin. Please do not place plastic grocery bags or stryrofoam in the bins.
SPECIAL NOTICE:
Tire Amnesty and Vegetation Amnesty will be the week of June 2 – 6, 2008. Please keep your tires and vegetation separated and in accordance with the following guidelines:
Tires – Residents may put out up to eight (8) car and/or passenger truck tires (with or without rims) at the curb for pick-up on their scheduled bulk trash day.
Vegetation – Residents may put out an unlimited quantity of vegetation in lengths not to exceed four feet (4') in length and/or four inches (4") in diameter at the curb for pick-up on their scheduled bulk trash day or vegetation day. In accordance with City Code, vegetation cannot be generated by a commercial landscaper/trimmer.
Vegetation Only Amnesty – The Solid Waste Division is offering a special Residential Vegetation Amnesty cleanup the week August 25 – 29, 2008 in accordance with the above guidelines.
