Seahorse Fountain

Seahorse Fountain by Frank Varga
North courtyard of the City Library, 208 South Seacrest Boulevard

seahorse fountain sculptureThe Seahorse Fountain sculpture features sea horses hanging onto sea grasses swaying with the ocean current.  The 200 pound, 4-by-8-foot bronze sculpture was purchased in 2008 after its one year display on the Avenue of the Arts.  The public voted it as their top two favorite artworks. The "Rings of Promise" was the second favorite. The Arts Commission recommended its purchase and the City Commission approved it as part of the Art in Public Places permanent collection.  The funds for the artwork purchase came from the 30% of the 1% Public Art impact fee that development and redevelopment projects pay.  The sculpture was relocated to the City Library courtyard, placed on a custom built based and turned into a working fountain, where it can be enjoyed in a more intimate setting,

Artist, Frank Varga, has been sculpting his entire life, a talent he inherited from his father and passed to his son. Frank has studied globally from Florence, Italy to Honolulu. He has commission work worldwide with sculptures ranging in size and materials such as wood, metal and stone.  Frank is known for his monumental artwork such as the piece titled "Immigrants" in Germany and the "Barefoot Mailman" in Hypoloxo, FL.  His portrait of John F. Kennedy was displayed in the White House and his bronze bust of Pope John in the Vatican.

Frank Varga was commissioned in 2007 to create a public art memorial for Carolyn Sims.  This memorial called "Eternal Vision" is in front of the Sims Center at Wilson Park in Boynton Beach.
