Go Green

The Art in Public Places Program contributes to the Sustainability Team for the Climate Action Plan Implementation Strategy by promoting the team to think creatively about how to apply Public Art/Environmental/Eco Art to “Green Projects.”  Eco Art and Environmental Art forms of Public Art can serve to function, educate and demonstrate green technologies. By applying a per cent of the project funds towards a public art component and integrating it into the infrastructure, architecture or environment it highlights “makes visible” the green technology and markets it to the public. The Public Art often contributes to the projects goal in a functional way and adds additional “Green Certification” benefit such as LEED points for fulfilling educational and demonstrative requirements. And don’t forget the public art process most often engages the community. Bottom line; Public Art contributes to the City’s Green Initiative goals.
