HIGHWAYMEN PUBLIC ART MURAL PROGRAM Art in Public Places, "Enriching our Community through Public Art".
The Youth Violence Prevention Program, Art Center Kids Club, Hester Center Kids Club, Library Art program and Art Smart are participating in Highwaymen Public Art Mural program for Boynton Beach Heritage Celebration February 15-23. This program will educate children, teens and the public about the Highwaymen artists and their desire to "rise above social expectations and earn a respectable living." This program will encourage a better understanding of, and appreciation for, Florida's history* and culture among citizens of all ages in Boynton Beach.
Children and teens create Highwayman style artwork that will be transformed into five murals. These murals will be displayed publicly throughout the CIty of Boynton Beach to promote Heritage Celebration 2008.
The Highwaymen Public Art mural program will teach children and teens about who the Highwaymen artists were and how they empowered themselves through art. The program participants will create individual Highwaymen style artworks portraying their environment. Each group will host 4 -5 week classes, and professional volunteers will assist in the teaching and painting process.

Chosen artwork from each group will be transformed from individual size artwork to five 4' x 8' murals. The groups will paint the murals. The murals will be publicly displayed throughout the CIty near the event signage for the Heritage Celebration's February 15 - 23 event. Murals will remain on display for months following the Heritage Celebration.
Heritage Celebration 2008 Wednesday, February 13th 6 - 8pm at the Schoolhouse Childrens Museum Art in Public Places presented "Highwaymen Roadshow" Art Link International, a gallery in Lake Worth, that specializes in Highwaymen and Florida artwork, will link art with the public. The public brought in their Florida paintings, to discover if its an original Highwaymen. Art Link International will appraise it FREE OF CHARGE!
Heritage Celebration Opening VIP Reception Friday, February 15th at the Women's Club
Art Link International, a gallery in Lake Worth that specializes Highwaymen artwork, had two prominent Highwaymen artists at the Heritage Celebration opening reception. Highwaymen artwork on display was for sale. Art Link International featured a new documentary on the Highwaymen for attendees to view. Highwaymen books and DVD's were available for sale.
The Highwaymen awarded the winning students of the Public Art Mural program with a signed copy of the Highwaymen book. The winning artwork for the individual Highwaymen Public Art Mural was displayed along with photos of the finished murals. The event included light refreshments and have musical entertainment.
