PROJECT: Boynton Lakes Plaza “Functional Clock Tower” Public Art Feature
HOST: Regency Center a private redevelopment company.
PURPOSE: Regency Center is requesting qualifications from an artist(s) to design, fabricate and install a site specific commission public art project for the Boynton Lakes Plaza located at (address), Boynton Beach. The public art project will satisfy the City of Boynton Beach Art in Public Places Ordinance 07-002. The public art project is to be integrated into the plaza renovation plans. The public artwork should assist the shopping plaza visitor to connect to the Boynton Lakes Plaza and create a engaging experience. The targeted area for the public art is the plaza’s “Functional Clock Tower” public art feature. The selected artist will create a visual and esthetic solutions to the the “Functional Clock Tower” public art feature for the renovation project. All materials can be considered such as lighting, mosaics, metal and other sculptural elements, glass and wall treatments. Regency Center will be responsible for the construction (materials and labor) of the tower structure. The artist will be responsible for the Functional Clock public art elements and any design elements integrated into or onto the tower structure. THEME: The public artwork “Functional Clock Tower” public art feature should be integrated and site specific to the Boynton Lakes Shopping Plaza, the plaza visitors and tenants.
PROJECT SPECS: Boynton Lakes Plaza renovation plans include interior build out of the plaza’s big box retail space, and the facade facing north, including a “Functional Clock Tower” public art feature on one of three structures added to the plaza. Boynton Lakes Plaza is sited near the north end of the City of Boynton Beach borders surrounded by many neighborhood communities.
PROJECT BUDGET: $14,000.00 (includes all specs detailed above)

$12,000.00 fabrication budget
ELIGIBILITY: This request for qualifications is open to all artists or artist teams who are legal residents on the United States. Artists submitting qualifications should demonstrate a level of experience and professionalism that is commensurate with the project scope and budget. Once project is awarded the artists will contract with Regency Center owners of Boynton Lakes Shopping Plaza to design, fabricate and install an unique, integrated and identifying “Functional Clock Tower” public art feature for the Boynton Lakes Shopping Plaza. A sample artist agreement is provided in this document.
ARTWORK PROPOSAL SELECTION PROCESS: An independent committee will review the qualification proposals that are submitted to the Public Art Administrator and a finalist will be selected to begin the conceptual design phase for the project. Once a concept is completed and proposal prepared it will be reviewed by the Arts Commission for approval. Once approved and an artist agreement is signed with Regency Center the project can commence. (see sample attached) Project will be coordinate with the City Public Art Administrator and Regency Center representative.

“Avenue of the Arts” 2011/2012
Theme: This year the City of Boynton Beach Arts Commission encourages artists to submit public art designed to enliven the Ocean Avenue district connecting the Boynton Harbor Marina to Seacrest Boulevard. The artwork can depict the theme “Coastal Life” and vitalize the Avenue in between the new projects that are under construction by the Community Redevelopment Agency. The artwork can relate to the Amphitheater Intracoastal Mangrove Estuary Public Art Project, the Boynton Harbor Marina, Boynton Beachʼs history, the Intracoastal Waterway, Boyntonʼs close proximity to the Gulf Stream or our rich marine industry and cultural heritage.The artwork should hold up to the outdoor Florida environment for the year long display. The artists may consider more than one artwork site or create a site-specific installation that addresses this theme. This is a perfect program for professional artists to gain public art experience. 10 total Avenue sites can accommodate artworks up to 15’ x 6’ x 10’ (large pads) and 10’ x 4’ x 6’ (small pads.)
Selection and Installation Schedule: Each selected artist will receive $1,000.00 per artwork selected to cover delivery and installation of the artwork. You, the artist, will be responsible for the delivery, installation and loan of the artwork. The City provides property insurance for the artwork on display. Your work, if selected, will be publicly displayed on lighted pedestals and included in the promotion, advertising and marketing of the year long event.
