Man with Chisel 2010

Indian sandstone sculpted by SOMPURA Artists

Sculpture size: 5'-6"h x 3’ x 3' at the base

Base size: 4' square x 2'

Located on the east side of side of main building lobby in the courtyard facing north.  It is the scene from the main entrance of the project.

The principle theme of sculpting in this art feature is for one’s life for happiness, success and peace of mind. The sculpture represents a person who is sculpting his own self out of a piece of rock.

The artisan’s specific to stone-work are given the title “SOMPURA” and have been practicing this art for generations. Their trade skills and traditional ways to create art-work are transferred from one generation to the next and are evident in the monuments that are created by the BAPS (www.baps.org) Swaminarayan organization in its centers all over the world.
