The Battalion Chief serves as the shift commander and each station is managed by a Captain. The Department provides the highest standard of care utilizing a three-person "Company" staffing concept; each Company supervised by a Captain or Lieutenant. This staffing concept is one of many reasons why the Department can provide the highest levels of quality service at a comparably lesser cost to the taxpayers than other similar departments. All Fire Rescue Stations are completely staffed 24 hours/day and 365 days/year. A 24-hour platoon shift (24 on/ 48 off) is utilized. All Operations personnel work a 48-hour week. The Department operates four fire pumpers, five advanced life support rescue units (ambulances), and one 100' ladder truck. The fire pumpers also serve as Advanced Life Support Medical Units, carrying all necessary medical equipment and are staffed with Paramedics.
The Fire Rescue Department, with an Insurance Services Organization (ISO) rating of 3, responds to approximately 11,000 emergency calls per year, a number that has been steadily increasing. The average response time for the department is 4 minutes 30 seconds. Mutual Aid agreements are in place with Palm Beach County and neighboring municipalities to ensure additional assistance as needed. The Boynton Beach Fire Rescue Department routinely provides mutual aid more than it receives mutual aid from surrounding areas. The Department also provides fire and emergency medical services to four contract areas, Hypoluxo, Ocean Ridge, The Village of Golf, and Briny Breezes.
