Becoming more sustainable can seem overwhelming. But residents like you are already taking important steps to move us in the right direction.
We often hear about the need for a more sustainable nation. We are told of our nation's heavy dependence on oil, our tendency to waste energy and water, our need for owning big fuel-inefficient vehicles, and our carelessness in caring for the environment. What we are not told is how easy it is to change this.
The nation is made up of communities, and our communities are made up of families like yours and individuals like you. The connection between the choices we make everyday about food, heating and powering our homes, getting around and buying and disposing of stuff make up more than half of all local carbon emissions. We all have an important role to play.
The good news is, making choices that protect the climate makes sense in our everyday lives. These choices help us save money, be healthy, support our local economy and connect with family, friends and community.
