Mayor Welcomes First "Green" Office to Boynton Beach

Mayor Jerry Taylor and Stace McGee at ribbon cutting ceremony.Heating, cooling, and powering office space are responsible for almost 40 percent of carbon dioxide emissions in the U.S., and account for more than 70 percent of annual U.S. electricity usage. At a ribbon cutting ceremony held on Monday, Dec. 8, for the new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified office of architectural firm Environmental Dynamics, Inc., Mayor Jerry Taylor recognized the company for incorporating design, construction and operational practices that will significantly reduce negative impacts on the environment and company employees.

The Mayor also took the opportunity to discuss how "green" jobs are the key to the country's economic recovery and long-term growth and that local government can be a catalyst for the creation of "green" jobs with adequate federal support. He noted that since February of 2008, Boynton Beach has been working to develop a long-term environmental plan to reduce carbon emissions. As part of that plan, the City is currently identifying opportunities where a demand for green' business exists and targeting an economic incentive program to attract green' business to the City.
