Who We Are:
The City of Boynton Beach Recreation & Parks Department maintains and operates more than 38 sites for recreational use. At the head of the Department is the Director who reports to the Assistant City Manager. The City Commission appoints a Recreation & Park Advisory Board of 7 members and 2 alternates. The Board meets monthly, providing valuable citizen input to the department's management.
On October 4, 2016, the City of Boynton Beach Recreation and Parks Department received national re-accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). This distinguished accomplishment was announced in St. Louis, MO at the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Annual Conference.
National accreditation requires recreation and park agencies to respond to 151 standards representing elements of effective and efficient recreation and park operations. To become accredited, agencies must demonstrate their ability to meet all 37 fundamental standards and 95% of the non-fundamental standards upon re-accreditation. The City of Boynton Beach Recreation and Parks Department is only one of 22 agencies in the state to have gone through the process and received national accreditation. Nationwide, less than 3% of park and recreation agencies are accredited; Florida leads the nation in accredited agencies and is proud to share this good news to our citizens.
